Shaker’s Restaurant Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Food was good, but my friend and our waitress had a communication problem, not helped by the vagueness of what comes w/ what on the menu. Omelette/scramble was decent, but smothered the American fries, depriving them of their identity. Sausage gravy was excellent, and coffee was good; people around us liked their pancakes. A little crowd control at the cash register would help; folks had a tendency to gather there and chat - or worse, text - making it uncomfortable for nearby diners and those waiting to be seated; perhaps moving the numerous paperbacks [mis]placed there for sale would help. I might return again, but only after I'd checked out the other breakfast spots in HL I haven't already.

Bought a cottage in the area and I've been here less than a year. I'm going to Shakers many times great waitstaff and good food. We have only been here for breakfast but I've never been disappointed. Pancakes are wonderful! Many different flavors!

Dinner with the family. We read about this great House Salad and it lived up to expectations. They have an awesome dressing on it and it is now one of my favorites EVER. I ordered a Sirloin burger which was serve without a bun...for $9.99. That was a little weird. Very good onion rings. Limited seating and the place is pretty popular.

We are new to the area and saw all the cars at Shakers for lunch. With the wait time and time to serve, an hour passed. I ordered Steak burger and the wife ordered Chicken Fried Steak Hot Sandwich. Steak burger was advertised as 1/3rd pound. It arrived hot and fresh but the bun was much larger than the burger. Disappointed. Wifes meal was a joke. It looked like a huge plate full of canned gravy. At least a quart of gravy. Instant potatoes hidden under the gravy. Chicken fried steak was less than a quarter of an inch thick and fried beyond belief. I tasted her meal and was disgusted. Drive by and dont waste your money.

Average diner. Friendly staff. Had the fishermans platter, kids had chicken and perch meals. Wife did like the house salad.

Broasted fish, fowl, and fries rule supreme in this clean restaurant with excellent service. I plan to return to try the cabbage rolls and pierogies. No beer or wine. Family friendly.

It is a shame with as much money that comes into this resort community that there are not more than two, if that, well run restaurant's. Not a lot of quality restaurant's in this area. I think because the tourist are only there if it is sunny weather in summer and snow in the winter. Otherwise the locals don't provide enough business to support the restaurant's when the tourist are not there. Shakers is one of the rocks. Though I have only done breakfast and many times I find that if you come on a weekend, get there early or be prepared to wait. If you're a big eater, I recommend the Shakers Omelet from the menu. They are clean friendly and reasonably priced with fast service with a smile. Just too busy to be any nicer. I appreciate this restaurant for what it is. They have wholesome food at a fair price, plenty of parking, they do not sell booze. (Thank goodness no smoking is allowed in MI now it stunk in there then) I suggest the management might consider opening second dinner restaurant with liquor (The old Maple Valley Restaurant is available) , I think they would do well, the weekenders are looking for a decent restaurant with atmosphere.

Love the pot pie. I have been for both lunch and dinner and had great service and food each time. Thumbs up for Shaker's!

Not so good. Server was nice and restaurant was clean. Food was disappointing. I had the perch dinner. My wife thought the Reuben was fine.

With a packed parking lot at lunchtime, I thought Shaker's would be worth checking out, but was sorely disappointed. Don't know why everyone was flocking here and even waiting for tables, other than for the charming waitresses. The place isn't air conditioned and was unpleasantly hot, humid, and noisy inside. My grilled chicken sandwich was inedible, and the fries were underdone. Clearly, the people who frequent this place on hot summer days don't care about having tasty meals in a pleasant environment.

My Uncle and I came in here for lunch one Sunday afternoon after Church. He ordered the Turkey Pot Pie - I went for a bowl of Chili and a Chef's Salad. My Chili was pretty good! Thick, hearty - with a mixture of beef and beans. The salad was good, but I would have liked to see more options for vegetables - I think it was lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Service was good. I'd come back here again!

Had the two piece fish basket tonite and my wife had the hamburg soup. I had 2 pieces of fish that were smaller than fish sticks and the fries were like rubber. My wifes soup looked like someone had fried up hamburg and dumped mixed vegtables into it very blah. Were not going back.

This is one of the best places in houghton lake. The staff is friendly and the food comes fast and hot. The broasted chicken is really good and so is a lot of other items on the menu. Walleye dinner is also a highlight. I dislike how packed and tight it can be but there is often a wait so they pack them in.

Party if four doing the broasted chicken dinner. Great decision for the 12 piece meal was amazing. Took the meal as a take out order and it would have fed 6 easy. Meal comes with large side of mashes potatoes and gravy along with veggies. They also pretty much give you a loaf of bread as well. Totally impressed with the taste of the chicken. Crunchy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. Some of the best chicken have had in a long time. The gravy is homemade you can tell and goes great with the potatoes and bread. Nice quite little place with good service and nice decor. Will return again to try more on menu or get the chicken again.

Shakers Omelette was tasty ... I liked the veggies in it... They were tender. The gravy was gross . Why can't diners have decent homemade sausage gravy?

So gross! Everything we ordered was disgusting. I paid 10.99 for the strawberry field salad. I should've went to Wendy's for a better salad. Where they observe expiration dates. My spinach was translucent. The blue cheese was hard. We left smelling like a greasy garbage dump. Don't waste your time.
